A Few Things To Know

We’re here to help you make the most of it

As a family run hotel seeking to provide a local touch we invite you to connect with our concierge prior to your arrival. We can help you book airport transportation, spa appointments or perhaps share some of the many adventures that beckon on this coast: from sunset sailing charters to jungle horseback rides and ancient, pre-hispanic temezcal ceremonies. Drop us a note at stay@lajoyasayulita.com

From the rooms, to the water and the food: we keep it clean

La Joya has an exceptional track record with guest health and safety.

We appreciate quality hydration and provide mineral rich spring water from local aquifers that are filtered through a 3 stage system that is then ionized. Every tap, faucet and shower head on site is filtered.

Meanwhile, our restaurant prioritizes cleanliness and food safety. All of our seafood is served fresh, delivered daily and we work with local suppliers to ensure quality is kept to a high standard.

This is a safe place

We are fortunate to be located on a private road that is only accessible through a security checkpoint. This is a small community that looks out for its neighbours.

Sayulita too is a remarkably safe town. Beyond occasional pick pockets there is little crime to be wary of.

We are located on a hillside

The offseason is awesome

From the entry to La Joya on down to the beach there are many stone stairs. Some access points are fairly steep and accessibility can be a challenge. Please inquire with the concierge to seek out the best options for accommodation if you have mobility concerns.

The beach, and swimming is seasonal

From June-December the beach directly in front of La Joya is usually covered with sand and typically the surf is more gentle. From January to June the currents shift and pull much of this sand into the sea and the waves become more powerful. Meanwhile, the beach directly adjacent to us, a 1 minute walk away, is covered in sand yearlong as it benefits from a bigger reef which acts as a breakwater.

Swimming in front of La Joya is not something we can recommend and we advise against it. With the shifting sand, rocks present themselves in new locations from one day to the next. This is especially a concern when the surf or swell is up. However there are many days throughout the year when the seas are relatively calm.

The Food and Drink is exceptional

We shot for the moon when imagining the dining experience at La Joya. Under the direction of Chef Jorge Miramontes we landed in the stars, The Tekuamana restaurant offers thoughtful organic, local and wild foods while the accompanying bar offers a selection of small batch spirits, designer cocktails and mocktails . Service is available all day all week.

It’s a Jungle Out Here

You Can Stay Connected

It’s a local secret that the offseason in Sayulita is the most beautiful time of year. Nightly rains cool the air and rid the town of dust while bringing the jungle back to a lush green state. The crowds disappear, the ocean is warm, the surf dies down which means the snorkeling and free diving right out front is excellent. While the beach at La Joya is at its most picturesque. It gets hot and humid but the cold plunge beckons and every room offers AC and respite from the heat.

We’ve invested in high quality fibre internet with a Starlink satellite back up system – This easily supports streaming and video calling. There is also a reliable phone service in each room with complimentary international calling.

La Joya is surrounded by lush jungle and all the life it supports. This means we have critters, abundant birdlife and occasional four legged guests that wonder about. It’s not unusual to hear their calls in the early hours of the day (the chachalaca) or to see their footprints (the monkey like Tejon) upon your terrace. We treat this life with respect and reverence as much as possible while also ensuring guest safety.
